Earl King

After thirty years helping people navigate consequential decisions, Earl King believes the real challenge isn't making better choices. It's seeing more clearly before the choice is made.

Who Earl Is

Earl King is the creator of Re-Seeing™, a guided perspective practice that helps professionals at a career inflection point take another look before deciding what comes next. At a time when most advice focuses on making better decisions, Earl's work focuses on something earlier: seeing more clearly before the decision is made.

That idea didn't come from a book, although validated by them. It came from thirty years inside some of the most demanding decision-making environments in financial services. Earl held leadership positions with Charles Schwab and Fidelity Investments, ran investment centers, and worked as an internal wholesaler.

What he noticed, over and over, wasn't just about money. Two people could look at the same situation and see completely different things. Not because the facts were different, but because of what each person brought to them. Perception, identity, pressure, and reality had fused together in ways most people could no longer separate.

That observation followed Earl out of those conversations and onto the air. As a television commentator, webcast host, keynote speaker, and workshop facilitator, he learned to translate complex ideas into conversations people could actually use.

Re-Seeing is his encore. Earl holds an MBA, begins teaching at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Duke University this fall, and writes weekly on Substack. He is based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

What Re-Seeing Is

Re-Seeing is a guided perspective practice built on a single premise: people aren't stuck because they lack information. They're stuck because perception, identity, and reality have fused together in ways they can no longer separate.

Re-Seeing creates the space to pull those things apart, to look at what is actually happening versus what you have decided it means, and to see what becomes possible from a more honest view. This is not therapy, coaching, or self-help. It occupies its own category.

When the Picture Hasn't Been Updated

For professional audiences, corporate, ERG, and leadership programs

Most professionals hit a point where effort stops producing the results it used to. The situation looks familiar. The strategy is the same. But the traction isn't there. This talk explores why that happens, not as a failure, but as a signal that the internal picture hasn't caught up with where they actually are, and what becomes possible when it does. Audiences leave with a clearer view of what they've been seeing and the one question worth sitting with before they decide what's next.

The Questions That Go Unsaid

For senior audiences, OLLI, lifelong learning, and community organizations

There's a set of questions that surface in life's later chapters that rarely get spoken out loud. Questions about relevance, identity, what still matters, and what to do with the time and experience accumulated over a lifetime. This talk creates space for those questions, not to answer them, but to look at them honestly. Participants leave not with a plan, but with a wider view of what's actually available from where they are.

More Effort Won't Fix This One

For any audience navigating a stuck moment, professional, organizational, or personal

When something isn't working, the default response is to try harder. More effort, more strategy, more of what used to work. This talk explores why that instinct often makes things worse, because the real problem isn't effort, it's the angle of vision. Through honest story and structured reflection, audiences discover what distortion actually looks like, why it's so easy to miss, and what a clearer look at the situation makes possible.

Re-Seeing in Practice

Re-Seeing is available in four formats. Each uses the same framework. The difference is time and depth, not substance.

First Look

Single 90-minute session

The entry point. Participants bring one real situation. Through structured conversation, they begin to see what's actually happening beneath the surface. Ideal for community organizations, ERGs, and workplace workshops.

Second Sight

Three 90-minute sessions

A deeper look across three sessions: See It, Recognize It, Re-See It. Currently offered through OLLI at Duke University (Fall 2026) and in proposal for OLLI NC State (Spring 2027).

Seeing Clearly

Weekend intensive, four sessions

Concentrated depth across a Friday evening through Sunday. For individuals and groups ready to go further into the Re-Seeing framework.

Living Sight

Six-week cohort

The full Re-Seeing arc across six modules: Self, Reality, Possibility, Integration, Choice Horizon, and Readiness. Built for organizations that want sustained perspective development.
